A lendária história do poder de cicatrização do aloe já é bastante conhecida, em parte porque a maioria de nós cresceu vendo um pé de babosa sendo cultivado no peitoril da janela da cozinha de casa. A planta lá ficava, à espera daquelas pequenas emergências que costumam ocorrer com quem tem a perigosa profissão de cuidar de crianças e preparar refeições, e também, porque a mamãe sempre soube que a planta funciona, nesses casos. Este artigo faz uma rápida análise das pesquisas que vêm acompanhando e dando suporte ao aumento da importância da utilização do aloe para o tratamento da pele, e ingrediente biologicamente ativo no emergente segmento da cosmecêutica.
Propriedades Terapêuticas
Estudos clínicos publicados com dados do aloe começaram na década de 19301-5 para o tratamento de dermatites e queimaduras induzidas por radiação. Esse enfoque prosseguiu pelas décadas de 1940 e 1950, com alguma expansão, como um estudo bem-sucedido comprovando o uso de aloe no tratamento da úlcera péptica.7
